Brethren,
As we all know, May 17th will be an exciting day for Masonry, with a number of events to attend.
There will be the Grand Lodge Reception & Banquet, the Scottish Rite Reunion, and a centennial parade for the town of Red Bank, where Navesink Lodge No.9 has been invited to march. Monmouth Lodge No. 172 has a speaker scheduled for that evening. It is indeed a full day of activities that can keep the most ambitious Mason busy.
But let us not forget, that on May 17th, the 17th Masonic District will also be supporting the Arc of Monmouth through its "Step Up for the Arc" Walk. The Arc of Monmouth doesn’t merely appreciate our support – they cherish it.
As we attend our individual lodge ritual refreshers and our monthly District Lodge of Instruction, we do so to improve ourselves in Ancient Craft Masonry. Many in the District will endeavor to obtain a bar or two at June’s Grand Lodge of Instruction, practicing their chosen work to perform it to perfection.
But imagine waking up one day and realizing that not only are you not able to recall the ritual that you know, you can no longer tackle the simple tasks that we often consider to be mundane. These are the tribulations that those who benefit from the Arc’s work face on a daily basis.
Through our support of the Arc, we utilize the common gavel, not to break off corners of rough stones, but to help remove barriers for those less fortunate than ourselves. Through the use of our trowel, we help to smooth away some of the rough ridges that make life more difficult for those with learning disabilities. And with the grip of a Mason, extended in an act of true Brotherly Love and Relief, we don’t offer a handout, but a helping hand, so that those, whom we support, may become productive citizens in the workplace and society.
Currently, the Arc Committee has commitments for two canopies and two generators, but we will also need two grills with extra propane tanks.
If you are able to attend and help out in this event, please feel free to contact us at arcwalk@matawanlodge.org. Please supply your name, lodge, phone number and what you will be able to supply.
Your help and support is deeply appreciated!
Cordially & Fraternally,
Rick Peterson
